Just to clarify, the Cato Institute is not a "very conservative" organization. It's a libertarian organization. Libertarians are laissez-faire on economic issues, like the GOP used to be, but it's also laissez-faire on personal matters, which the GOP never has been.
Nonetheless, I hope that some disaffected conservatives will consider the Libertarian Party when they go to vote. If you believe in limited government, it's the only rational choice. If you want to send a message to the GOP, this is the way to do it.
I've voted Republican for president in every election since I've been able to vote. Not this time. I picked Bush in 2000 as the lesser of two evils. But he has proved the truth of that old saying--if you choose the lesser of two evils, you're still choosing evil. The only way to get good candidates to run for office again--ones that understand the Constitution and believe in liberty and limited government, is to vote for change. There's no better time than now.
Editor's note--The writer is correct; the Cato Institute is more properly described as libertarian. We edited the entry accordingly.
